The Volunteer Process

We welcome your interest and your commitment to serving your community. Becoming a Rescue Squad volunteer member takes a bit of time but is intended to ensure that both applicants and the Squad are fully informed about capabilities, responsibilities, and commitment.

The process for becoming a volunteer member is:

Complete an application and meet with the Board of Directors for an informal interview
Complete an orientation class to learn and become comfortable with our operating procedures
Complete mandatory CPR and first aid classes
Within one year, become qualified as an Emergency Vehicle Operator or as an Emergency Medical Technician. EMT certification is fully funded by New York State.

We recognize that we live in a litigious society and that this is an important concern to prospective members. Per NYS law, Valatie Volunteer Rescue Squad volunteer members incur no personal liability as a result of their activities.
