Explorer Post
The Valatie Volunteer Rescue Squad sponsors Explorer Post 137, for teens between the ages of 14 and 18. Its purpose is to promote service activities among the area’s youth and to help them train to assist the Squad in emergency care.
Post members can elect to receive CPR and first aid training. Once trained, they are eligible for “transport status” and may ride along on non-emergency calls. Following completion of 10 non-emergency calls, they may ride along on emergency calls that do not present any danger to the Explorer. (Dangerous calls include homicides, suicides, drug use and domestic altercations.) Upon reaching age 18, Explorers can join the Squad as full members.
The Squad is proud to host Post 137. A healthy venue for area youth, the Post also provides a pathway for identifying and training new members.
Two current volunteer members and three paid members came up through the Explorer ranks.
