Buildings and Equipment
Providing the best service possible requires the best-equipped and trained personnel. Since 1935, the Valatie Volunteer Rescue Squad has led the region in training, technology and infrastructure.
We’ve come a long way since 1935, when our first ambulance, a converted hearse, was stored behind the U.S. Hotel on Valatie’s Main Street. Your Rescue Squad currently maintains four fully equipped ambulances and an ALS (Advanced Life Support) first response vehicle. All vehicles are equipped to Paramedic levels, and are capable of supporting any medical need or other emergency short of hospital-level critical care.
Recent additions to our equipment include Lifepack-12 heart monitoring systems and RAD-57 carbon monoxide detectors. A fully stocked pharmaceutical and first aid supply completes each vehicle’s inventory.
Our one-story headquarters building on Route 9H in Valatie has been our home since 1972. Centrally located but limited by awkward road access, its 3500 square feet hosts two two-vehicle bays, a one-vehicle bay, offices and lounge quarters. Backup power to the vehicle bays ensures operation of the overhead doors and reliable communications during power failures.
To foster the continued growth and quality of our services, we are actively trying to procure land within the community. A new building design is underway. We would appreciate any help the public can offer to support this important project. Contact us if you would like to help.
At our headquarters we offer community classes in CPR and basic first aid. We are also the home and sponsor of Explorer Post 137.
